EXODUS: THE NEW DIASPORA
Intro Script Genre: Political Drama | Setting: Present-Day U.S. and Africa/South America
FADE IN:
INT. NEWSROOM – NIGHT
A BREAKING NEWS banner flashes across the screen. A suited ANCHORWOMAN (50s, white, polished) shuffles her papers and looks directly into the camera with a grave expression.
ANCHORWOMAN(somber tone)Tonight, the United States faces an unprecedented crisis. Thousands of Black and Latino citizens are leaving the country, citing discrimination, economic instability, and fear for their safety.
CUT TO:
A montage of news footage:
A protest in Washington D.C.—riot police clash with demonstrators waving signs that read "WE BUILT THIS COUNTRY" and "IF WE CAN'T LIVE, WE LEAVE!"
A Black family in Atlanta loading suitcases into a truck, their house behind them stripped of furniture.
Footage from Congress—a REPUBLICAN SENATOR (60s, male, red-faced) slams his fist on a podium.
SENATOR(furious)This is an act of betrayal! If they don’t want to be Americans, let them go. But they will NOT take our wealth and resources with them!
CUT TO:
A classified government document titled "OPERATION CONTAINMENT" appears on screen, leaked by a whistleblower. Key words are highlighted:
"Prevent mass capital flight by African American-owned businesses."
"Monitor international remittances to Ghana, South Africa, and Brazil."
"Deny emigration visas to at-risk populations."
A robotic voiceover reads the contents as leaked documents flash across the screen.
VOICEOVER(monotone)The United States government is imposing restrictions on Black and Brown emigrants, fearing an economic collapse due to mass migration.
CUT TO:
A press conference in Accra, Ghana—the GHANAIAN PRESIDENT (50s, Black, regal in a traditional Kente cloth) stands before a sea of journalists.
GHANAIAN PRESIDENT(calm, firm)To our African American brothers and sisters: Ghana welcomes you home. You will find land, citizenship, and dignity here. This is your ancestral home.
CUT TO:
INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT
A working-class Black father, MARCUS (40s, rugged, weary), sits at his kitchen table in Detroit, scrolling through social media posts:
"I just got my South African residency approved!"
"Benin is offering land grants to African Americans. Who else is going?"
"The U.S. is falling apart, y’all. Time to go."
Marcus looks at his WIFE (30s, tired but hopeful) and their two young children playing on the floor. He exhales deeply.
MARCUS(soft, determined)Maybe it’s time. Maybe it’s time to go.
FADE TO BLACK.
